FAQ-FlapControl
Does the operating license of the vehicle expire?
Yes, if you install the control in a street-legal vehicle, the operating license expires.
Is a TÜV registration possible?
As part of a vehicle conversion, it may be possible under certain conditions to have the control registered.
Talk to your TÜV inspector in advance to find out whether registration is possible.
How is FlapControl connected?
FlapControl has one or two plugs and sockets, depending on the model. You disconnect the original plug and connect it to the socket. The other plug is then connected to the exhaust flap socket and the connection is complete. For vacuum-operated exhaust flaps, a ground cable must also be screwed on. And for very few controllers, an extra positive cable is also required.
Who can install FlapControl?
We recommend specialized automotive workshops for motorsports, tuning or vehicle electronics.
These usually have experience with the installation of flap controllers, and it is advisable to pay attention to this when choosing a workshop.
Authorized dealerships or independent garages primarily deal with the tasks for everyday vehicles such as TÜV, tires, brakes, shock absorbers and maintenance.
From our side, we advise against having the installation done there.
Does an error message appear in the vehicle when FlapControl is installed?
No, the system does not interfere with the vehicle data bus.
Can the garage read out errors when FlapControl is installed?
No, FlapControl acts as minimally in the vehicle as necessary and does not leave any error message.
Can I install FlapControl myself?
No. The control unit is a car part that requires specialist knowledge to install.
The level of difficulty of the installation is to be classified as easy for a specialist.
Regardless of the expertise, we support every customer before, during and after installation.
Please note that, depending on the vehicle, installation can vary in difficulty and time.
What if the installation doesn't work?
We are, of course, happy to help if, for whatever reason, something doesn't work right away.
It is best to write to us with precise details of what is not working, including images and video material if it helps. This is the quickest and most effective way.
We will find a quick and easy solution for everything.
Are the items also suitable for diesel vehicles?
No, we do not offer any items for diesel vehicles.
Has the system been tested and does it cause any damage to the vehicle?
Yes, it is tested. No, it does not cause any damage. Each of our systems is individually tested for function after assembly and subjected to quality assurance. FlapControl is built to be safe from the ground up, so that it could not interfere with the data bus, for example.
Is FlapControl approved?
No, the system does not have TÜV or ABE approval, nor will it.
FlapControl has been developed for motorsport and show purposes.
Is FlapControl heat resistant?
FlapControl is permanently resistant up to +80 °C. As a rule, you do not need any further heat protection.
Almost all vehicles have appropriate heat shields where they are needed.
You can lay the cables and the housing behind these, just as the vehicle manufacturer does at the factory.
My vehicle has two flaps, do I need two controllers?
No. If we offer a controller for your vehicle, only one controller is ever needed per vehicle.
Regardless of whether there is one or two flaps, electric or vacuum flaps.
Is installation plug-and-play?
PnP is derived from computer technology, where it means “connecting without configuring”.
Applied to our products, this means: It is equipped with the appropriate connectors and no cable or electronic work is necessary.
And no programming or coding is necessary on the vehicle.
Can the start settings for FlapControl be changed?
The settings are predefined for the BASIC version; when you order, you can choose which setting you want.
With the PLUS variant, you can make the settings yourself using the remote control.
Is there a memory function?
Yes. The PLUS variant has a memory function. This means that the control unit remembers the last set state and activates the corresponding state the next time the vehicle is started.
What is the factory setting for FlapControl?
The factory setting starts with the standard setting. The valve opens at the push of a button.
Is there a valve control for every vehicle?
Our FlapControl systems are for vehicles that are already equipped with an exhaust valve at the factory. This means that to use this control, your vehicle must already have an exhaust valve.
For all other vehicles, a flap control is only possible by retrofitting a flap. You can find offers in our shop.
Are there flap controls for diesel vehicles?
Yes, there are. But it is only the case for very few diesel vehicles that they have an exhaust flap for noise emissions. We do not offer controls for diesel vehicles.
How much power does a valve control consume?
The valve control requires relatively little power, approx. 40-60mA. And in most vehicles, it switches off completely after a short time when the vehicle goes into sleep mode.
What is the difference between BASIC and PLUS?
BASIC: You can switch the exhaust flap OPEN and CLOSED (SERIES) with the 2-button remote control. When OPEN is selected, the flap is always open. When CLOSED is selected, the series function is activated and the engine control unit takes over the opening and closing. The start setting is specified and can be indicated when ordering.
PLUS: The control unit has a 3-button remote control that can be used to switch the exhaust flap OPEN, CLOSED and SERIES. In the OPEN position, the flap is always open; in the CLOSED position, the flap is always closed; and in the SERIES position, the vehicle is 100% responsible for controlling the flap. You can choose to set the start mode permanently or to use the “last state” function. All settings can be made using the remote control.
Are installation instructions included?
Yes, comprehensive, universal installation instructions are included. A vehicle-specific description is not included.
